We look forward to working with you and your families over the coming year and hope that you will find everything you need to know about life in Year 5 in the documents below.

Year 5 Curriculum Overview 2022-23
Summer 2023
We are excited about our new curriculum theme – ‘A Wonderful World’ which explores the geography and differing landscapes of North America. We are busily creating different ‘biomes’ in the classroom – desert, tundra, grassland, aquatic and forest.
Other events to look out for this term include Bikeability, a visiting author, Coronation celebrations, Sports Day, Playleader training for Year 5, a Year 5 experience day at Bassingbourn Village College, a Rocksteady Concert and an Italian themed morning for parents.

Autumn 2022
‘Full Steam Ahead...’ is our cross curricular theme this term and we will be finding out all about what it was like to be a child in Victorian times and how the lives of children who came to our school when it first opened may differ from our lives today.
Here are some images from our first term in Year 5 which show that times have changed quite a lot since our school first opened it’s doors over 150 years ago.
We would like to thank all of our special visitors who joined us in the Year 5 classroom on the penultimate day of term for a Christmas Celebration. The children enjoyed writing letters to you, receiving replies and then welcoming you into the classroom to make gift bags, decorations, play a whole range of games and very importantly eat cake – Victoria Sponge of course! Thank you so much for your enthusiasm and kind words.
Spring 2023
Happy New Year everyone!
The Spring term in Year 5 promises to be equally as action packed. Please refer to our topic web link for more details of the learning we have planned across the curriculum.
Highlights include ‘Viva Roma’ which will see us travel back further in history to explore the Roman Empire and its’ impact on Britain.
Grafham
As you have no doubt heard we had a fantastic time at Grafham. The children really rose to the challenges they faced and working together as a team they did brilliantly in all the activities they took part in – canoeing, high ropes, low ropes, crate stacking and problem solving to name a few. We have hundreds of photos and look forward to inviting you into school later in the term to see them along with your child’s work.
