Autumn Term 2018
This term, we started by focusing on Roald Dahl across the school. In Year One we shared the book ‘The Giraffe, The Pelly and Me’. We had fun drawing main characters, thinking about their characteristics and comparing characters.
We have moved onto our main cross-curriculum topic of ‘Terrific Toys’. We have already discussed the types of toys we play with now, and talked about why we like what we play with. The children enjoyed sharing a lovely toy they brought in from home and recording this in their written work. We have thought about the types of toys that might have been played with in the past, writing to a relative to ask what they enjoyed playing when they were younger, using our writing skills to ask appropriate questions.
It has been lovely to see some older toys being brought in for Show and Tell and think about how we can compare them to our toys.We will be learning to play some more traditional games and look at some toys from the past, culminating with making some toys which children might have played with in times gone by.
