Welcome to Reception!
We have 25 children, 13 boys and 12 girls. Our teachers are Mrs Meridew and Miss Webb and our Teaching Assistants are Mrs Dix and Mrs Keech. We are very lucky to have Mrs Littlefair to cover Mrs Meridew's and Miss Webb’s Planning, Preparation and Assessment time on Wednesday afternoons.
Below is a timetable of the things we do each week. As you can see, we do a lot of busy learning!
In Reception we look at topics such as Pirates, Space and Down on the Farm. We practise lots of skills such as recognising and using numbers to 20, shapes and their properties, reading using phonics and writing for a variety of purposes.
In Reception we learn through seven areas of learning which are split into three prime areas: Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Communication and Language and Physical Development. As well as four specific areas: Literacy; Mathematics; Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. Here are some photographs of us learning in our classroom.
The children have been learning about safety in PE and how to use the equipment correctly. They have been practising climbing, balancing and jumping.
We are kick-starting the Summer term by learning all about animals through our topic of 'Down on the Farm'. During this topic we will visit a local farm to learn all about the way animals live. We will also have a visit from a tractor to learn about technology on a farm. We will be starting Phase Four Phonics and focussing on writing more than one sentence at a time. We will also be learning about weight and capacity.
In Summer 2 we will consolidate our Reception learning through the topic of 'Ship Ahoy!' where we will be learning about Pirates! We will start to write our own stories and complete problem solving activities.
Our visit to Standalone Farm…
We have been super lucky to go on an exciting trip to Standalone Farm. We began our day by getting on a coach – this was the first time many of us had been on a coach before. Once we got to the farm we went and visited a variety of animals to learn about what they eat, where they sleep and how they look after their babies. We got to see pigs being fed, donkeys going for a stroll and a cow being milked. We also got to bottle feed a lamb! We had a fantastic day. Here are some photos of our trip:
We began 2018 by thinking about New Years Resolutions and created a display for the front entrance hall. We started our topic ‘3, 2, 1... Blast Off!’ where we have been learning all about Space, as well as looking at 3D shapes and beginning to learn Phase Three Phonics.
In Spring 2 we learnt about different types of weather that occur throughout the year through our topic of ‘Whatever the Weather’. We continued learning Phase Three Phonics, learnt how to write number sentences and thought about positional language.
Our school journey began in September when we started ‘big school’ full time. We began by learning about ‘Magical Me’. We thought about what made us special, painted self-portraits, began to use numbers for counting and practised our listening skills through Phase One phonics.
We then progressed on to our second topic ‘Food Glorious Food’, where we learnt about senses through food. We spoke about and sampled our favourite foods, looked at 2D shapes, and started Phase Two Phonics, as well as performing in our Nativity ‘Lights, Camel Action!’.
‘Lights, Camel, Action:- It’s Strictly the Nativity’
We all really enjoyed performing our nativity for you – acting, singing and especially dancing, as you can see from these lovely photos!
