Chess Tournament

25th November 2016

On Friday 25th of November, Anna (yr6), Lowenna (yr6), Edward (yr6), Archie (yr6), John (yr5) , Ben (yr5), Freddie (yr5)  and Alex (yr5) excitedly raced to the open doors of Bassingbourn Village College to compete in a chess tournament.

Quickly, everyone rushed in to the empty library to reach a seat next to their friends. Before they knew it, Bassingbourn Primary pupils ambled in, closely followed by the children from Bassingbourn Village College who towered over everyone. Very soon, everyone had a partner to play against and then the games began!

After the first match, eight exultant children sat eager, ready to start the next game.

Finally, everybody had played at least three games and settled down to a scrumptious biscuit and a cup of pineapple juice ready to receive the scores!

Afterwards we all felt content about our scores and sportsmanship and (the chess teacher) Mr Wainwright quoted, “It’s our first ever big win against Bassingbourn Village College!” Thank you to him for organising it and also for leading the club.

If you would like to learn how to play chess, you could come to the lunch time chess club. We meet every Friday, in the Non-Fiction Library, from Yr3 upwards!
